Develop a custom Odoo module
When Odoo does not quite do what your business needs, a custom module bridges the gap, without touching Odoo’s own code.
What it covers
New fields, screens and reports
Automations: computations, checks, scheduled actions
The rules specific to your business
Taking over or fixing existing custom modules
How I go about it
-
Understand the need
What you do today, what gets in the way, and what Odoo or an OCA module already covers: the best module is often the one that does not have to be written.
-
Split it up
One need, one module, with declared dependencies: each piece can be added, removed and upgraded without touching the others.
-
Develop and test
Following OCA conventions, with automated tests run again on every change.
-
Deliver
The code in your repository, its documentation, and the installation on your instance.
What you receive
- The modules and their source code, in your repository
- Their automated tests
- User documentation
- The time spent, tracked task by task
Frequently asked questions
Does a custom module make upgrades harder?
Not if it is written for them: a module that does one thing, declares its dependencies and has its tests moves from one version to the next without surprises. That is the whole difference with a change made directly in Odoo’s code.
Do I need Odoo Enterprise?
No. A module can target Odoo Community as well as Enterprise: it only relies on what is installed on your side.
Who owns the code?
It is delivered in your repository: you can have it developed further by anyone you like.
A module to create or take over?
Describe it in a few lines: I will get back to you as soon as possible.
