Modular Odoo development: one need, one module
The sentence is short, the discipline is demanding, and it is what decides what your Odoo will cost in three years.
In two words
Odoo is made of modules: Sales, Inventory, Invoicing, Project… Each brings its objects, its screens and its rules, and rests on those below it. What I develop for you is added the same way: one more piece, which declares what it rests on, and one thing per piece. The whole forms a tree, and that tree is what you really own.
What it changes for you
-
Upgrades without surprises
Each piece moves to the next version on its own. No hidden dependency wakes up on the way.
-
Code reused, not rewritten
A generic piece can come from the OCA, or go back there. You do not pay twice for the same thing.
-
You keep control
A piece can be removed. The tree can be read. Another developer finds their way without me.
-
Tested piece by piece
Each module passes its tests with its own dependencies alone, before it is even assembled with the others.
What it costs
More modules to name and to list, and a refusal, sometimes, to “just add a field where it is convenient”. That is the price of an Odoo that upgrades without surprises.
To go further
-
Modular development, explained simply
One image, four things to remember and an example, without a line of code.
Have an Odoo project in mind?
Describe it in a few lines: I will get back to you as soon as possible.
The other methodologies
-
Tested Odoo development: every change comes with its proof
Tests written with the code and run again on every change: what it guarantees, and what it costs.
-
OCA standards: reuse first, then contribute
Reuse the OCA's free modules before writing, and write as they do: why it protects you.
